Entry 10 - Eclipses
Eclipses
An eclipse occurs when a planet or moon gets in the way of sunlight
On Earth, two types of eclipses can be experienced: solar eclipses and lunar eclipses
Solar Eclipse
A solar eclipse occurs when the moon gets in the path of sunlight and casts its shadow on Earth. That means that during the day, the moon moves in front of the sun and it becomes dark
Lunar Eclipse
During a lunar eclipse, the Earth blocks sunlight from reaching the moon. At night, the full moon disappears completely, as the Earth's shadow covers it
The moon may appear reddish in color because Earth's atmosphere absorbs other colors while bending some sunlight toward the moon
